The state capital of Saarbrücken organizes a large cultural festival with an attractive programme on various stages in the area of Saarbrücken's Old Town.
The state capital of Saarbrücken is once again celebrating the Old Town Festival this year and is expecting over 250,000 guests. Visitors can look forward to live music, the market for design, art and clòòres, the family program and numerous food and drink stalls.
The festival has been taking place since 1976. The Saarbrücken Old Town Festival originated from a citizens' initiative. Jörn Wallacher, Hildegard Redicker and Helmut Müller came together at a founding meeting, initiated by an advertisement in the Saarbrücken newspaper, to organize the first festival. The concept was to draw attention to socio-political and urban development issues in addition to an artistic supporting program. The response to the festival, which was initially supported purely by the sale of drinks, was so good that the citizens' initiative decided to plan further events of this kind.
