The spring edition always takes place around Easter. The fall Dippemess always begins in September. The Dippemess in Frankfurt am Main has a long history steeped in tradition.
The origins of the Dippemess date back to the Middle Ages. The name "Dippemess" is derived from "Dippe", a Hessian term for pots or jugs. Originally, the Dippemess was a market where household goods, especially pottery, were sold. Over time, the Dippemess developed into a folk festival that offered not only merchandise, but also entertainment and fun. Rides, fairground stalls and culinary delights became part of the festival.
