Gonsenheim celebrates an annual church consecration festival.
Gonsenheim is a district of the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital of Mainz. With the first documented mention of Guntzinheim on November 13, 774, Gonsenheim has over 1200 years of well-documented local history.
Even before the Second World War, the Catholic church environment formed the breeding ground for a variety of carnival activities. For example, the Marian Congregation gave rise to carnival meetings on a small social scale. After being banned during the Nazi era, the tradition was continued in the 1950s in the Sängerheim restaurant and since the 1970s in the large gymnasium. Since the early 1980s, the traditional Pfarreifastnacht has been held annually as an ecumenical meeting of the 3 Gonsenheim parishes of St. Stephan, St. Petrus Canisius and the Protestant community. During these sessions, the first intensive youth work was carried out, from which many Gonsenheim carnival greats such as the GCV ballet and many active members of the GCV and the Füsiliergarde emerged.
