Hate speech refers to communication that attacks, devalues or discriminates against someone because of their affiliation. To counteract this communication, the United Nations celebrates the International Day for Combating Hate Speech on June 18 (A/RES/75/309).
This day of action was established in the summer of 2021 by a resolution of the UN General Assembly, which was the result of global concern about the "exponential spread and proliferation of hate speech". It aims to promote interfaith and intercultural dialog and tolerance in the fight against hate speech.
