Warnemünde Week is an international sailing event and public festival in the Rostock Baltic seaside resort of Warnemünde. In Warnemünde, the summer festival on the Alter Strom and beach attracts visitors with live music, shows, sporting challenges such as beach ball and dragon boat races as well as numerous other highlights.
After Kiel Week and Travemünde Week, Warnemünde Week is the third largest regatta event in Germany. Sailing has been taking place off Warnemünde in the Bay of Mecklenburg since 1926. 47 yachts started the regatta in 1926, but today there are around 2,000 sailors from 30 nations competing for victory in various regattas such as Europa Cups, German Championships and Gold Cups in the sailing area in the Baltic Sea.
On land, the Warnemünde Week has been opened since 2001 by the Niegen Ümgang through Warnemünde, a colorful parade in historical costumes.
Warnemünde Week is not the same as the major maritime event Hanse Sail, although this also takes place in Warnemünde and on the nearby Baltic Sea. The Hanse Sail is essentially about presenting tall ships and traditional sailing ships from all over the world.
