At the beginning of June, the Old Port of Wismar, which is a trademark of the Hanseatic city of Wismar and is of great economic and tourist importance, has hosted the port festival since 1991. Every year, it attracts thousands of visitors to the lavishly renovated port area and offers a colorful market with artists and craftsmen, a variety of cultural events and, of course, a wide range of culinary specialties.
The harbor days also include sporting competitions, such as dragon boat races and trips on traditional sailing ships such as the "Wissemara", a replica of the Poel cog, and a parade of barrels. A brilliant highlight of the harbor festival is an impressive firework display on Saturday evening.
