A visit is particularly worthwhile for families. Children can make juice from the apples they have picked themselves and, of course, drink it.
There are four orchards in Bad Homburg that shape the landscape: at Wingert in Ober-Erlenbach, in Kirdorfer Feld, at Platzenberg and at Pilgerrain in Gonzenheim. They are of great importance for local recreation and biodiversity. The death of overripe fruit trees, the neglect of orchard meadows and, above all, their disappearance were the main reasons why the city initiated the Apple Day in Bad Homburg in 2006. The aim was to provide information about the importance of orchards for people, nature and the landscape, but also to create a network of people who are active and interested in the use and care of orchards.
Expert guided tours through the bird- and insect-rich meadow orchards on the Wingert provide both fun and information about these unique and species-rich biotopes, which have a significant impact on Bad Homburg's landscape.
