The festival is one of the largest open-air events in Germany and has been held annually in the Günther-Klotz-Anlage in Karlsruhe since 1985. Up to 250,000 visitors of all ages come together every year on the last weekend before the Baden-Württemberg summer vacations - i.e. at the end of July - to celebrate DAS FEST at the Günther-Klotz-Anlage in Karlsruhe.
The goal pursued by the organizers differs significantly from the other major German festivals, as the aim is to appeal to and entertain all sections of the population, regardless of age or income.
Das Fest gained national recognition as a music festival, which is the main component of this event.
For children and families, there is the children's and cultural area, where the little ones can play, splash around and experience little adventures under supervision. In the sports area, the annual FEST Cup takes place in skateboarding and fingerboarding. For fun sports enthusiasts, the sports area offers all kinds of other activities. The FEST Café, the cultural stage and the classical breakfast on the main stage on Sunday mornings are cross-generational offerings. The mix of young and old creates the unique "FEST atmosphere", which is praised and appreciated by many visitors.
