Immerse yourself in the fascinating spectacle of the Ride of Blood in picturesque Weingarten, an Upper Swabian jewel that venerates a relic that is over 950 years old - a lump of earth that is said to contain a few drops of the blood of Jesus Christ. This precious gift came to Weingarten as a bridal gift in 1070 and forms the centerpiece of an impressive procession.
The procession leads the relic through the historic streets of the town and its picturesque surroundings. Protected by a gold cross adorned with an impressive 65 precious stones, this tradition dates back to the 14th century. As early as 1526, the Blood Ride was described as a "custom of old", and even today more than 3,000 horsemen and women gather every year on Bloody Friday, the Friday after Ascension Day - a fascinating blend of history and spirituality.
The participants, organized in over 100 blood riding groups, present themselves in elegant tailcoats and top hats, while their magnificently dressed horses attract attention. The atmosphere is permeated by the melodious accompaniment of around 80 bands, which accompany the procession with solemn sounds. The Blutritt in Weingarten is not only a religious tradition, but also a colorful spectacle that has survived the centuries and continues to captivate thousands of people.
