David Granger's government announced that it will invest more in defense given that the country is now an oil producing and strategically located country. And it declared December 20 as National Oil Day (Día Nacional del Petróleo).
Guyana's future is brighter with the onset of 'first oil'. The 'good life' for all beckons. Oil production will be a transformative process in the country's economic development. The oil sector will stimulate increased employment and expand services.
The effect of the oil boom is striking. In 2022, its GDP grew by 62% and this year it is projected to grow by 37%. Authorities and oil companies plan to increase production to 1.2 million in 2027. Oil experts had not seen such an explosion until now.
