Day of the city of Starobelsk, Ukraine

Starobelsk is a city in Ukraine, in the city community of the same name in the district of the same name in Luhansk Oblast. It is located on the left bank of the Aidar River. It was founded on the territory of the Ostrogozhsky regiment of Slobodska Ukraine.

There are many legends around the city. One of them says that near Starobelsk hidden looted treasures of Makhno, who was in the city for a long time. It was in Starobelsk on October 2, 1920 that he signed a military-political agreement with the command of the Red Army on the joint fight against Wrangel. The city is mentioned in the work of I. The day of the city of Starobelsk is celebrated on September 30. Sloboda Belskaya was founded in 1686 by Ukrainian Cossacks of the town of the same name in Poltava region on the territory of Ostrogozhsky Slobodsky regiment. Later it was renamed into the county town Starobelske. From 1730th the settlement was called Staraya Belaya. 1797 it was renamed to Starobelsk city, county center of Slobodsk-Ukrainian, from 1834 - Kharkov province. As of 1975 there were 22 700 people living in the city. According to the 2001 census, the population was 22040 inhabitants.

On February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation launched an audacious large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
