February 21 is recognized as the Day of the Canary Letters, a day instituted by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2006 with the intention of institutionalizing it and celebrating it every year, and as a tribute to José de Viera y Clavijo, one of the main authors of the Canary literature and the greatest exponent of the Canary Enlightenment.
It is celebrated every February 21 because on this day in 1813 José de Viera y Clavijo died.
