The battle of Ingavi or Incahue took place on November 18, 1841 in the town of Viacha, in the province of Ingavi, Bolivia. There, Bolivian troops under the command of General José Ballivián confronted Peruvian troops under the command of General Agustín Gamarra.
This confrontation was part of the war between Peru and Bolivia that lasted from 1841 to 1842. It was one of the first great battles of the War of the Pacific.
The Battle of Ingavi was a decisive military victory of Bolivia over Peru in the War of the Confederation. The battle took place near the Desaguadero River, on the present-day boundary between Bolivia and Peru, and was the last major battle of the war. The Bolivian victory at Ingavi put an end to the Peruvian incursion into Bolivian territory and confirmed Bolivia's independence.
