November 15, 1817 is considered as the birth of the National Navy, when General José Artigas wrote to Juan Murphy, but with the seal of arms of the Republic.
Thus begins a career of treaties made by our Prócer, until November 15, 1817, date of the Patent of Prey signed by General Artigas in favor of Juan Murphy-Officer of the Corsair "La Fortuna", countersigned by José Monterroso, with the seal of arms of the Republic, is taken as the date of this document, for the commemoration of the "Day of the Navy".
