Every year on October 2, Argentina celebrates Building Foreman's Day (Día del Encargado de Edificio), also known as Building Manager's Day (Día del Trabajador de Edificios): a day that commemorates the creation of the Sindicato Único de Encargados y Ayudantes de Casas de Renta, which took place 80 years ago, since it was founded on this date but in 1942.
By the early 1940s, there were approximately 35,000 apartments in Buenos Aires, and this gave rise to the emergence of building managers, who were known as "rental house workers".
They did not have a professional category that recognized them as such. For this reason, and in order to differentiate them from domestic workers, a sector of the Sindicato de Trabajadores de Casas Particulares decided to create a new independent group.
This is how the Sindicato Único de Encargados y Ayudantes de Casas de Renta (Sueyacr) was born, which took place on October 2, 1942: this is the reason why the Día del Encargado de Edificio is celebrated on this date.
Over the years, the organization grew and adopted new forms. Thus, in 1959, it changed its name to Sindicato Único de Trabajadores de Edificios de Renta y Horizontal (Suterh).
