In the assembly of Ayllón (Segovia), in 2014, the mayors of the municipalities that made up the association declared October 1 as the day of The Most Beautiful Villages of Spain (Día Oficial de Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España), which coincides with the founding day of the association. On this day all the mayors of the associated towns raise the flag of The Most Beautiful Villages of Spain and cultural and tourist activities are free of charge in each of the towns. This day aims to vindicate the care of the heritage and ancestral customs of the small villages of Spain.
The celebration is moved to the first weekend of October and is held in one of the villages that have joined the association in the last 12 months.
The day aims to demand solutions to the problems suffered by the villages and the rural world, "but it is also a great day to show the pride we feel for our villages and extend it to our neighbors and visitors", the report said.
