The Armed Forces of the Plurinational State of Bolivia (Active since August 7, 1826), are the set of military institutions in charge of the national defense of Bolivia and are constituted by the Command in Chief, the Bolivian Army, the Bolivian Air Force and the Bolivian Navy. These institutions report to the Bolivian Ministry of Defense.
Additionally, in addition to the three forces already mentioned, the Bolivian National Police, although under the Ministry of Government in peacetime, is part of the reserves of the Armed Forces according to the Organic Law of the Armed Forces of this nation, along with other reserve corps such as the SAR-FAB emergency and rescue units.
Figures on the size and composition of the Bolivian Armed Forces vary considerably with no official data available. It is estimated, however, that the three main forces (army, navy and air force) total between 39,000 and 70,000 troops, while the Bolivian police force is estimated at around 40,000.
