In Argentina and Chile, Baker's Day is, strictly speaking, National Bakery Worker's Day. The name of the date comes from the fact that it was on August 4, but in 1887, that the first bakery workers' union was founded.
Named at that time Sociedad Cosmopolita de Resistencia y Colocación de Obreros Panaderos. The creation of this first bakery workers' union was the work of the famous anarchist Enrique Malatesta. During his short stay in Argentina from 1885 to 1889, this political activist left a strong mark on the origins of the organization of the labor movement in that country.
In 1957, the Argentine National Congress officially recognized August 4 as National Baker's Day. Since then, the celebration of this date has been a classic in Argentine society and circles related to the production of bread and other delicacies.
