Iberianism Day
Iberianism Day is held on June 7. Unofficial holiday. This event in the first decade of the month June is annual. Help us
Iberianism is a political movement advocating closer relations between Spain and Portugal and even the unification of the two states.
As proponents of the movement report, "June 7 should be Iberianism Day, because we remember the great pact signed in 1494: the Treaty of Tordesillas." Iberians take the initiative to recognize June 7 as "Iberian Day" because it reminds us of the historical milestone that allowed us to settle the longstanding rivalry between the Portuguese and the Spaniards. Years of wars, attempts to subjugate one to the other and to generate the necessary hatred.
The recognition of that day never suggested an idyllic view of what was signed there, but it was a great step for humanity, which was leaving the Middle Ages behind, to enter a new era of unprecedented discovery and technological achievement.
There are people in our always eventful history who deserve close attention, but not to pass by like a person browsing an obituary, but to stop, look and see, trying to learn as much as possible. Such, for example, is Sinibaldo de Mas, one of those men who lived through the 19th century and could look beyond it.
