On May 25, 1881, President Antonio Guzmán Blanco decreed this patriotic song as the Hymn of Venezuela, which arose as an emotional song in a moment of patriotic inspiration at the time of the Independence.
As for its composition, the lyrics and music have been historically attributed, respectively, to Vicente Salias and Juan José Landaeta, it was originally written around 1810 as a patriotic hymn. Subsequent official modifications have been those of Eduardo Calcaño (1881), Salvador Llamozas (1911) and Juan Bautista Plaza (1947). The latter is the one officially used today.
