On February 9 of each year, the Day of the Dentist is celebrated in Mexico in order to recognize the services that these health professionals offer every day to prevent and treat oral diseases in adults and children. The celebration of this day was approved by the Chamber of Deputies on April 10, 2014.
Oral diseases are considered a public health problem in our country, according to figures from the Epidemiological Surveillance System for Oral Pathologies (SIVEPAB) 2012, one in three infants who attend health services have severe caries. This means that this chronic disease is more common in the first stage of life, affecting more than 60% of children and adolescents. In the case of adults, the prevalence of users is 94.9%.
Prevention plays a fundamental role in oral health because Mexicans go to the dentist only when they have pain or an advanced disease.
