This is an important day in Valencia, as it honors the entry of King Jaime I in the city in 1238. This is a historical commemoration of the date in 1238 when King James I officially entered the city of Valencia, freeing it from Moorish rule. This festivity has been introduced by the Aragon King Jaime II in the 14 century as the National day of Valencia.
The 9 de octubre celebrates the Region of Valencia Day, but also the feast of San Dionisio, traditionally considered the saint patron of lovers. During this day as custom marks, men gives their sweethearts a silk scarf which has inside a delicious assortment of sweet marzipan.
