On August 4, Vitoria-Gasteiz's festival par excellence begins with the traditional "chupinazo" which at six o'clock in the afternoon announces the start of the festivities in honor of the Virgen Blanca, the patron saint of the city.
In Vitoria, the cult of the White Virgin began with the founding of the city by King Sancho VI in 1181. In the 17th century, the Brotherhood of Our Lady the White Virgin emerged, in charge of activities related to her devotion.
