The history of carpets dates back to the Turks in the Neolithic Age, around 7000 BC. The term carpet was first used in English at the end of the 13th century, meaning "rough cloth". The meaning of the term carpet shifted in the 15th century to more specifically refer to floor coverings.
For some people, it may be a time to clean or replace those worn-out rugs, while for others it may be a time to appreciate our old plush rugs.
American author Edgar Allan Poe is best known for his mournful poetry and eerie short stories. He also had plenty to say about what we today call interior design. In an 1840 essay about interior decorating, Poe states, "A carpet is the soul of the apartment."
