The Irish Coffee, unlike a Oaxacan Old Fashioned or Moscow Mule, actually comes from the country the drink is named after. Irish coffee is a cocktail consisting of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, and sugar, stirred, and topped with thick cream. Irish Coffee was created in the winter of 1943 by Joe Sheridan, chef at Foynes Port near Limerick, Ireland. The original Irish Coffee was created by an airport chef named Joe Sheridan, who worked at the little Foynes airport near Limerick. He whipped it up one rainy winter night for passengers whose plane got turned around due to a storm.
The original Irish coffee recipe explicitly uses cream that has not been whipped. Irish coffee is known to provide all four essential food groups in a single glass: alcohol, caffeine, sugar and fat.
