Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) is the largest non-governmental development organisation in the world, in terms of number of employees as of September 2016.
The first international NGO was probably the Anti-Slavery Society, formed in 1839. The anti-slavery movement, which reached its height at the end of the 18th century, was the catalyst for many organisations that followed.
First time marked officially by the UN, EU leaders and international organizations in 2014. The Global Inaugural event of World NGO day was hosted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland on 27th of February 2014 in Helsinki, Finland.
