The day of the foundation of San Francisco de Quito is celebrated every year on December 6. The date commemorates the birth of city through the participation of Sebastián Benalcázar in the year 1534.
Quito will celebrate this December 6 the anniversary of its founding, a celebration that finds the capital of Ecuadorians embraced to its history but with a firm step in the advance towards modernity.
"It is a city that has grown, that has modernized, but that has not left aside its roots or its historical identity, customs, religious festivities and gastronomy," said Patricio Guerra, PhD in History of Mentalities from the University of Huelva (Spain).
