About some honduran traditions

They’re serious about soccer. Hondurans love their music. The sounds of salsa and cumbia are often in homes, bars, and on the streets. These Honduras holidays are large and lively, and include street parades and performances.

Honduras. The name translates to “great depths” in Spanish – named by Christopher Columbus after the deep waters along the coast.

Honduras has had a rocky history and it’s a place where, in certain parts, travellers still need to err on the side of caution. There’s a machismo vibe about Honduras, especially in the “wild east” departments of Olancho and Gracias a Dios. Honduras was the first country to ban smoking in your own home. The capital is actually two cities: Comayaguela and Tegucigalpa. In fact, done the right way, there are some incredible experiences awaiting you in Honduras and throughout Central America.

Local buses are called Chicken buses. They’re brightly painted and look like a party on wheels.

It is a land of wild beauty. Honduras is part of the second largest coral reef in the world, after the Great Barrier Reef. It’s rich with abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery.

The National Bird of Honduras is the Scarlet Macaw. The national mammal of Honduras is the white-tailed deer. The national flower of Honduras is the Rhyncholaelia digbyana.

One of the traditional and most enjoyed events of Honduras is the Sawdust Alfombras of Comayagua. Using nothing but colored wood shavings the people of Comayagua, Honduras create rich religious tapestries that are trampled into oblivion the moment they are complete.

The biggest tourist attraction in Honduras and one of its biggest money makers are the Copan ruins. You can explore incredible Maya ruins.
