World Theatre Day
World Theatre Day is held on March 27. This event in the third decade of the month March is annual.
The significance of this day is to raise awareness regarding the importance of theatre and to know the importance of theatre around the world. The day also provides opportunities for theatrical communities to put forward their work on a large scale.
The word theatre comes from an ancient Greek word meaning a 'place for seeing.' Theatre opens us up to experiencing different perspectives that we may not be aware of or contemplated. Theatre's way of examining dialogue, monologue and character allows us to flex our empathy muscles. In other words- understanding theatre helps us understand what it means to be human.
The old superstition of no whistling on stage comes from the time when theatres used to hire sailors as stagehands and riggers, and cues were called using whistling commands.
