Bangabandhu Homecoming Day
Bangabandhu Homecoming Day is held on January 10. The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is being observed today in a befitting manner. This event in the first decade of the month January is annual.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman shortened as Mujib and widely known as Bangabandhu was born on 17 March 1920 in Tungipara, Faridpur District, Bengal, British India. He is admired in Bangladesh with the honorific title of “Bangabandhu” which is used around the world.
Mujib is considered to have been a fundamental figure in the efforts to gain political autonomy for East Pakistan and later as the central figure behind the Bangladesh Liberation Movement and the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
He was put in prison for treason for presenting a six-point autonomy plan and released after Bangladesh’s independence in 1972. He was elected as Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Awami League won a huge ruling in the country’s first general election in 1973. In a 2004 BBC poll, Mujib was named the Greatest Bengali of All Time.
