World Day Against Child Slavery
World Day Against Child Slavery is held on April 16. This event in the second decade of the month April is annual.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that about 152 million children aged 5 to 17 are engaged in child labour. Evidence points to a strong link between household poverty and child labour, and child labour perpetuates poverty across generations by keeping the children of the poor out of school and limiting their prospects for upward social mobility. Over a million children are sold as slaves every year. Many work in dangerous conditions and more than 20,000 children are killed every year while working. 1 in 4 of all victims of trafficking are children involved in forced labor.
