Thanksgiving Day in Germany

Thanksgiving, a traditional festival in many countries, marks the end of the harvest season. It is mainly celebrated in Christian churches on the first Sunday in October or November.

Originally, the harvest festival has biblical roots, in which the gods were thanked for a successful harvest. In Christianity, the festival serves to thank God for the gifts of nature and to appreciate the importance of nature and creation. It is also an opportunity to remember the people involved in the production of food and to express solidarity with those who have less.

Communities celebrate Thanksgiving with special services, festive music, flower arrangements and harvest offerings. In some places, processions and festive parades take place, with harvest wagons being pulled through the streets. In rural areas, Thanksgiving is often celebrated with communal meals and drinks.
