The beginning of the celebration of the Day of Love and Friendship in Colombia dates back to 1969. Before that time, Valentine's Day, also known as Valentine's Day, was celebrated in country on February 14.
That year it was decided to move the celebration to September as a commercial strategy. In order to separate the expenses involved in the beginning of the school season, it was decided to change the festivity to a date when it would be more economically profitable to sell gifts.
Another reason for moving the date was the fact that in Colombia there was no special celebration in September. Therefore, it was decided to place the Day of Love and Friendship on the third Saturday of September.
At first, the date was exclusively dedicated to show love to our partners. Later, the term friendship came about in order to broaden the character of the celebration so that those who were not in a relationship could also have a special day to celebrate with their friends.
